NetEase Games has announced the first console Closed Beta test for Once Human, the post-apocalyptic survival game that continues to gain attention among players. The test is scheduled to run from March 26 to April 8 (PT) and will allow console players to explore the game ahead of its full launch.
The beta test will launch alongside Version 2.3.26, known as the Deviant Update, which introduces new enemy encounters, gameplay mechanics and survival challenges.
This test gives players an early opportunity to experience the evolving world of Once Human while developers gather feedback before the official console release.
Console Platforms and Cross-Play Support
The Closed Beta will be available on several modern consoles. Players using different platforms will also be able to play together during the test period.
| Platform | Availability |
|---|---|
| PlayStation 5 | Supported |
| PlayStation 5 Pro | Supported |
| Xbox Series X | Supported |
| Xbox Series S | Supported |
The beta includes cross-platform play between PlayStation and Xbox, allowing players from different consoles to join the same sessions and explore the world together.
How Players Can Join the Closed Beta
Players interested in joining the console beta must complete a registration process.
The application form is available through the official Once Human Discord community. After submitting the form, selected participants will receive a special Discord role called Console Pioneer.
Players who receive this role will also get test access codes and detailed instructions for downloading and joining the beta.
Another important detail is that all progress made during the beta will be reset once the test ends. However, participants will receive an exclusive Closed Beta Pack as a reward. These items will remain permanently tied to the player’s account and can be used once the game officially launches.
Version 2.3.26 Deviant Update Introduces New Enemies
Along with the console beta, the Version 2.3.26 Deviant Update will introduce several new enemy encounters and mechanics designed to challenge players’ survival skills.
These new Deviants bring unique behaviors and combat strategies that require teamwork and awareness.
Devourer Sound-Based Combat System
One of the new features involves the Devourer, which now reacts to sound-based mechanics.
Players can use audio cues to influence the creature’s aggression. In certain situations, survivors may even redirect the Devourer toward nearby enemies. Strategic use of sound could also cause the creature to attack teammates if players are not careful.
This system introduces a new tactical element during encounters.
Mimic Tree Hidden Threat
The Mimic Tree is another new Deviant introduced in the update. It appears identical to a normal tree and hides within forest areas.
If players cut nearby trees without discovering the Mimic Tree first, they may receive a debuff that distorts their vision and hearing. To avoid the trap, players must carefully clear surrounding trees to reveal the hidden enemy.
Once defeated, the Mimic Tree causes nearby trees within 50 meters to collapse, allowing players to collect a large amount of wood resources.
Sea Slug Ambush Attack
The Sea Slug introduces a dangerous aquatic encounter. This creature remains hidden underwater and can only be damaged when it opens its mouth during an attack.
Its most dangerous move allows it to attach itself to a player’s head. To escape, a teammate must remove the creature, or the affected player must reach a nearby fire source to burn it off.
This mechanic encourages teamwork and quick reactions during combat.
