The Women’s Big Bash League is probably the biggest franchise cricket tournament in women’s cricket. The WBBL was the first of its kind when it was introduced in 2015 with a total of 8 teams. Since then, it has continued, and over the years, the WBBL has gained more popularity.
It is as big as Men’s Big Bash League. Five out of the eight WBBL teams have won the title in history, and four of them have won it multiple times. In this article, we will talk about the list of winners for the Women’s Big Bash League from the first season to the latest.

1. Sydney Thunder – 2015/16

Sydney Thunder made history and became the first-ever side to win the WBBL title in the inaugural season. Alex Blackwell led them to the title. They finished the group stage at the top.
The Thunder had a thrilling semifinal against the Perth Scorchers, where they defended just 118 runs to make it to the final. In the final, they beat the Sydney Sixers by 3 wickets to win the WBBL title.
2. Sydney Sixers – 2016-17

After finishing the inaugural season as runners-up, the Sydney Sixers did the unfinished job in the second season when they won the WBBL 2016-17 title. That win came under the captaincy of Ellyse Perry. Sarah Aley took 28 wickets for the team and finished as the leading wicket-taker in that season.
After beating Hobart Hurricanes in the semifinal, Sydney Sixers beat Perth Scorchers in the final by just 7 runs and defended 124 runs. Sarah took 4/23 in the final and also won the Man of the Match award in the final.
3. Sydney Sixers – 2017-18

Sydney Sixers went on to defend their title in the third season successfully. They made it to the third successive final of the WBBL. Captain Ellyse Perry scored the most runs (552) in the tournament, and Sarah Aley once again took the most wickets in the tournament.
The Sixers beat the Perth Scorchers in the semifinal and beat the Adelaide Strikers in the final to lift the second WBBL title. Sarah Aley took 4/18 in the final and won the Player of the Match award in back-to-back WBBL finals.
4. Brisbane Heat – 2018-19

The fourth season saw a new team winning the WBBL title. This time Brisbane Heat showed a great performance, and captain Kirby Short led them to the title. The Heat didn’t have a great start, and they lost two of their first three games but finished the group stage in third place. Brisbane Heat beat Sydney Thunder in the semifinal to make it to the final.
The final was very tight as the Heat edged past the then-defending champion Sydney Sixers by just 3 wickets to stop them from making the hat trick. Brisbane Heat became the fourth team to lift the WBBL title. Delissa Kimmince took most wickets (22) for the Heat and helped them win.
5. Brisbane Heat – 2019-20

In the fifth season, Brisbane Heat became only the second team to win a successive WBBL title or defend their title in history. Kirby Short led them once again to the title. This time the Heat finished the group stage at the top.
They beat the Melbourne Renegades in the semifinal by 4 wickets. Then in the final, they faced the Adelaide Strikers and won by six wickets. Beth Mooney scored an unbeaten 56 to win the Player of the Match award in the final.
6. Sydney Thunder – 2020-21

The sixth WBBL season saw a former team winning another title. This time Sydney Thunder won their second WBBL title. Rachael Haynes took the Thunder to their second title. They finished third in the group stage but beat the then-defending champion Brisbane Heat in the semifinal by 7 wickets.
In the final, the Thunder beat the Melbourne Stars by 7 wickets to win the title. Sammy-Jo Johnson took most wickets (22) in the tournament and helped the Thunder win the title.
7. Perth Scorchers – 2021-22

Perth Scorchers men’s team has won five Big Bash League titles, but it took seven seasons for the franchise to win their maiden WBBL title. It happened in 2021-22 when Sophie Devine led them to their maiden title. The Scorchers finished the group stage at the top and then beat the Brisbane Heat in the Eliminator to qualify for the final.
In the final, they faced the Adelaide Strikers and beat them by 12 runs to win their maiden WBBL title. Marizanne Kapp won the Player of the Match award in the final. Beth Mooney scored the most runs (547) in that season and helped the Scorchers lift the title.
8. Adelaide Strikers – 2022-23

After finishing fifth and seventh season as runners-up, Adelaide Strikers finally got their hands on the WBBL trophy when Tahlia McGrath led them to their maiden title. The Strikers had a great season, and they carried that form into the playoffs. They beat Brisbane Heat in the Challenger by six wickets to qualify for the final.
Then, in the final, they beat Sydney Sixers by 10 runs to win their first WBBL title. Deandra Dottin played a match-winning innings of 52 off 37 in the final to help his team win the title. Megan Schutt took most wickets (27) to help Adelaide Strikers to win.
9. Adelaide Strikers – 2023-24

In the ninth season, Adelaide Strikers became the fourth team to win successive WBBL titles. They won the ninth edition under the captaincy of Tahlia McGrath for the second time. They carried the form from the last season into the ninth season and won most games in the group stage.
Adelaide Strikers beat Brisbane Heat in the final, defending a low score of 125 runs to win by three runs to lift their second title. Amanda-Jade Wellington bowled a match-winning spell of 3/16 to help the Strikers to win the final.
