India have made it into their fourth ODI World Cup final after defeating New Zealand by 70 runs in the first semi-final of the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup at the Wankhede Stadium in Mumbai on Wednesday. With brilliant displays from both bat and ball, India continued their domination in the tournament and registered their 10th consecutive win to enter the World Cup final after 12 years.
Now, the main target of the Indian team is none other than to lift the title in Ahmedabad on 19th November for the third time and repeat the triumphs of 1983 and 2011. India are also most favorite to win the cup being the host nation and are yet to lose a game in the tournament. Rohit Sharma and his men will be looking to continue their winning momentum in the final as well and lift the cup in front of their home crowd. The final will be played at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 19th November.
As the Indian team will take on the field on Sunday, all eyes will be on the top run-scorer of the tournament so far, Virat Kohli. The star India batter has been in breathtaking form in the ongoing tournament as he broke the record for most runs in a single edition of the World Cup. Kohli has amassed 711 runs in 10 matches in this World Cup at an average of 101.57 along with three centuries and five half-centuries. Earlier this record was held by the former Indian cricketer Sachin Tendulkar who scored 673 runs in the 2003 World Cup. Not only this, Kohli also surpassed Tendulkar’s record of most centuries in the ODI format after he scored his 50th ODI century in the semi-final against New Zealand. His 117-run knock, along with Shreyas Iyer’s ton and Shubman Gill’s fifty helped India to post a mammoth total of 397 runs for the loss of 4 wickets. While in bowling, Mohammed Shami’s 7-wicket haul helped India to register 70-run win over the Kiwis to enter the finals.
