Whole new world of cricket entertainment is set to begin in Tamil Nadu with its domestic league TNPL 2024 season eight edition which is set to commence from 5th July 2024. This series will have total of 8 teams competing in the tournament which are:Salem Spartans, Metronation Chennai, Chepauk Super Gillies, Lyca Kovai Kings, Madurai Panthers, Trichy Grand Cholas, Nellai Royal Kings, Dindigul Dragons and IDream Tiruppur Tamizhans. The final of the TNPL 2024 will take place on 4th August 2024 with the winners of the Qualifier 1 and Qualifier 2 Winners.

Organized and managed by the TNCA the championship started in the year 2016 at the time when the Chennai super kings was under the ban for two years, inaugurated by the Dhoni this league promised Chennai fans a relief to witness cricket with young and experienced cricketers of different formats.

Featuring 8 teams, this twenty over format league will have a total of 32 matches which will be organized in the round robin format where the teams will compete against one another to qualify for the semi-finals. The winners of the semi finals will go in a head to head clash to win the ultimate trophy champion title. Each team is set to play a total of 7 matches against one other.

TNPL 2025 Schedule, Date and Times

TNPL 2025 Tournament Format

The eight teams will compete against one another in a total of 28 league matches following the round robin format of the tournament. Each win will fetch two points on the points table and the top four teams with the most points will qualify to the Playoffs like IPL, which consists of three matches before the actual final showdown:one eliminator and two qualifiers.

The top two teams of the league stage will compete in the Qualifier 1, with the winner directly entering to the final and the loser getting another chance to qualify for the final by playing the Qualifier 2.meanwhile the third and fourth finishing teams on the table will play and eliminator match the loser will get knocked out and the winner will face the loser of Qualifier 1 in the Qualifier 2. The winner here will advance to play the ultimate match of Final, competing for one more time before the ultimate champion of the league is announced.

TNPL 2025 Auction

TNPL 2024 auction took place on 8th february at the Kalaignar M. Karunanidhi Stand lobby within the Tamil Nadu Cricket Association, Chepauk, Chennai. The auction featured a total of 144 players which were categorized in the four different categories as per their participation in the different cricket format games. And this whole event was led by the renowned cricket commentator Charu Sharma.

Participating teams have already retained their best players and competed to fill the remaining void spaces in the team, being said that Sai Kishore and Sanjay Yadav broke the record for the highest bid in TNPL auction history, each fetching 22 lakhs. They were followed by Harish Kumar (15.40 lakhs) and Abhishek Tanwar (12.20 lakhs) as the other high bids of the day.

The categories for the players are:

Category A: Players who have participated in international matches.

Category B: Players recognized by BCCI in domestic matches.

Category C: Players who have played over 30 TNPL matches but are not in A or B.

Category D: Other players.

The whole auction was as thrilling as the IPL auction, each team owner had a bag of 70 lakhs, and could select between 16 to 20 players in the auction.

TNPL 2025 Points Table

The performances of the teams during the whole of the tournament will be analyzed and will be reflected on the points table. The points table for each team will feature its winnings, loses net run rate and past five matches score and results, this table will have rankings based on the team’s performances. The teams with good performance will be positioned on the top of the table and the top four teams would be seen entering into the Qualifier and Eliminator stage of the League. Following these playoffs the top finishing 2 teams on the table will go against one another to get the title on their name.
