IND vs BAN 1st Test 2024: Ravindra Jadeja and R Ashwin recorded a 199-run partnership for the 7th wicket in the ongoing India vs Bangladesh 1st Test 2024.
Currently, India and Bangladesh are playing the first test of a two-match test series at MA Chidambaram Stadium. On the first day of the 1st Test match, Bangladesh pacer Hasan Mahmud caused trouble costing India some important wickets including Indian captain Rohit Sharma, Shubman Gill, and Virat Kohli.
Next, keeper-batter Rishabh Pant made a good comeback after his long overdue 22-month break from red-ball cricket but returned to the pavilion after scoring 39 runs in the 36th over.

However, R Ashwin remained unbeaten on day 2, while Jadeja was dismissed by Taskin Ahmed scoring 86 and missing the ton. The partnership between R Ashwin and Jadeja ended on 199 runs which is the 8th highest 7-wicket partnership in Test cricket by Indian cricketers.

1. Rohit Sharma and R Ashwin – 280
In 2013, R Ashwin and Rohit Sharma gave a 280-run partnership against West Indies at the Eden Gardens. After West Indies posted 234 on day 1, Indian cricketers failed to score runs and lost some early wickets. To save Team Blue Rohit Sharma and R Ashwin came into action and gave India’s highest partnership for the 7th wicket breaking the previous record of MS Dhoni and VVS Laxman’s 259, which is next on our list. In 280 runs, Rohit Sharma bagged 177 including 23 fours and one six while Ashwin amassed 124 including 11 fours.
2. VVS Laxman and MS Dhoni – 259*
VVS Laxman and MS Dhoni gave an unbeaten 259 runs, the second highest partnership by the Indian, for the 7th wicket in test cricket. In the second test match of a two-match Test series between South Africa and India, Proteas bagged 296 on day 1 in return, Indian batters scored a mammoth 643 runs. Former captain MS Dhoni (132) and VVS Laxman (143) bagged 259 runs for the 7th wicket partnership in 2010. Again this record was witnessed by the iconic Eden Gardens.
3. Ravi Shastri and Syed Kirmani – 235
It was 1984 when England went on a Tour of India for the 5-match ODI and 5-match Test series. In the 1st Test match of the series at the Wankhede Stadium, Indian cricketers lost early wickets in the first innings while chasing England’s total of 195 runs. To come to the rescue, Ravi Shastri (142) and Syed Kirmani (102) went on a rampage and bagged 235 runs jointly for India. It is the third-highest partnership for the seventh wicket by an Indian cricketer in Tests.
4. VVS Laxman And MS Dhoni – 224
Once again the duo of MS Dhoni and VVS Laxman saved the day and gave a record-breaking partnership of 224 for the 7th wicket against West Indies. In the 2nd Test match, VVS Laxman bagged an unbeaten 176 runs, on the other side of the wicket MS Dhoni scored 144 runs before getting caught by Carlton Baugh on Kemar Roach’s ball at the famous Eden Gardens.
5. VVS Laxman and Ajay Ratra – 217
In 2002 India was on a tour of the West Indies for the 5-match test and ODI series. In the 4th test match, VVS Laxman and Ajay Ratra bagged 217-run, 5th highest partnership for the 7th wicket. VVS Laxman bagged 130 runs, while Ajay Ratra scored an unbeaten 115 runs.
