Amid IPL 2024, 20 International cricket teams announced their best 15-men squad alongside the captain for the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. The 9th edition of the ICC T20 World Cup is co-hosted by the United States and West Indies combined host.
As the final date of the squad submission for the 2024 T20 World Cup is 1st May, all teams have announced their 15 players with reserve players. As we mentioned above, in this ICC’s biggest event 20 teams are participating, and expansion to the 16 teams of the 2022 edition.
The selection of these teams is based on the top eight teams from the 2022 edition, two teams from the ICC Men’s T20I Team Rankings, eight teams determined by regional qualifiers, and two teams from the hosts. All these teams are divided into groups and the first four matches will be the group stage that will decide the Super 8 teams for the next rounds.
So far only West Indies and England have won the T20 World Cup Trophy twice in the ICC tournament history. Where India clinched the inaugural T20 World Cup Trophy in 2007, Pakistan (2009), Australia (2021), and Sri Lanka (2014) only once.
2022 reigning champion England will defend their title and try to bring back the trophy home for the third time. In the 2024 ICC Men’s World Cup, once again Jos Buttler will lead his squad to recreate the magic on the the new world’s pitch.

Rohit Sharma -India

Rohit Sharma is one of those few players who has participated in all 8 editions of the T20 World Cup and is ready to appear in the 9th edition in 2024. Rohit Sharma played a key role in the inaugural 2007 T20 World Cup and bagged 30 off 16 balls. Rohit was the fourth-highest run-getter in the 2014 T20 World Cup scoring 200 runs in just 6 matches. However, the 2022 edition was a bit underwhelming for the skipper with a strike rate of 106.42 scoring 116 runs in 6 matches. As a captain, it will be the 3rd appearance of Rohit Sharma in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Babar Azam – Pakistan

Babar Azam has regained his captaincy in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024. In the 2021 T20 World Cup, Babar Azam has the highest number of the with 303 runs. He has the highest 569 runs in 11 matches in the 2024 PSL. For the 3rd time, Babar Azam will lead Pakistan’s cricket team in the United States and America ahead of the 2024 T20 World Cup.
Saad Bin Zafar- Canada

The Debutant Canada team is going to be led by Pakistani-Canadian cricketer Saad Bin Zafar who has been making his name in T20 cricket. 37-year-old veteran allrounder Saad Bin Zafar has been captain of Canada’s team since 2022. During his T20 career, Saad has bagged 29 off 7 balls with a 414.28 strike rate against Bahrain which is the 3rd highest strike rate in the T20 innings. Speaking of his bowling career, Saad has an outstanding 2/0 best bowling figure in 4 overs. Not only this but he has a record of most maidens and best economy figure in his T20 career. Undoubtedly, Saad Bin Zafar one of the most established cricketers in the Canada squad is going to make his debut as a captain in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Paul Stirling – Ireland

Irish veteran batter Paul Stirling has been named to Ireland’s 15-men squad for the t20 World Cup 2024 in the USA and West Indies. Paul Stirling served as interim captain for the team before he became permanent captain for the White Ball cricket in October 2023. Stirling is one of the finest Irish cricketers who holds the record for the highest individual score in an ODI for Ireland. He amassed 3491 in 136 innings in his T20 career and became one of the top 10 scorers in T20 cricket. He made his T20 World Cup debut in 2009 for Ireland. However, in the 2024 T20 World Cup, Paul Stirling is making his debut as a captain of the team.

Mitchell Marsh – Australia

Mitchell Marsh has been promoted from interim captain to permanent T20 captain and will be the torchbearer in the ICC Men’s T20 World Cup 2024 tournament. Marsh has been playing this role since the retirement of Aaron Finch after his 2022 World Cup failure. Mitchell Marsh as a captain suggests it is the new beginning of the Australian T20 Cricket team with some fresh faces with a backbone of experienced players.
Jos Buttler – England

English skipper Jos Butler will defend its 2022 T20 World Cup title in the 9th edition of the ICC’s marquee event in 2024. Jos Buttler is the most successful wicketkeeper with 439 dismissals including 393 catches and 46 stumpings. Other than Paul Collingwood, Jos Buttler is the only captain who brought the T20 World Cup Trophy to the home.
Gerhard Erasmus* – Namibia
Aqib Ilyas – Oman

For the 2024 T20 World Cup Oman revealed their new captain Aqib Ilyas who replaced the former skipper Zeeshan Maqsood. Aqib Ilyas Sulehri is a Pakistani cricketer representing Oman in International cricket since 2015. Oman’s top-order batter Aqib Ilyas can also be an off-spinner and holds the record for the 2nd most wickets taken hit wicket in the T20I cricket. Aqib also has allrounder ODI records of a century of 109* and a 4-wicket haul in an innings against Nepal in 2020. Ahead of the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup, Aqib Ilyas will make his captain debut for Oman in the USA and West Indies.
Richie Berrington – Scotland

Scottish veteran allrounder Richie Berrington is going to lead his Scotland T20 World Cup Squad in the United States and West Indies. Richie Berrington was named to Scotland International team’s captain after former skipper Kyle Coetzer stepped from his position. So far Berrington has amassed 2040 runs in his T20 I career. He is the 17th player to register the fastest 2000 runs in his T20 cricket career. In the 2022 T20 World Cup, Scotland played well and defeated the 2-time World Champions West Indies in the qualifier. Ahead of the 2024 World Cup Richie Berrington and his team will face England in a group-stage match 6 at Kensington Oval Stadium.
Kane Williamson- New Zealand

Under the captaincey of Kane Williamson, experienced Blackcaps will participate in the 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup. Kane Williamson enters the tournament for the 6th time as a player and 4th as a captain in the T20 World Cup 2024. Skipper Kane Williamson will be looking forward as the Kiwis haven’t won the T20 World Cup yet.
Rashid Khan – Afghanistan

Rashid Khan has been named as the captain of the 2024 T20 World Cup as he replaced the previous edition captain Hashmatullah Shahidi. Star spinner Rashid Khan has set many T20 records to his name including most four-haul wickets and most consecutive four wickets in an innings. Rashid Khan and his squad are hopeful for the upcoming 2024 ICC Men’s T20 World Cup.
Aiden Markram – South Africa

Aiden Markram will lead the Proteas in the T20 World Cup 2024 tournament. It will be the 2nd time that Aiden Markram appointed as South Africa’s captain for the T20 World Cup Squad after the previous 2022 World Cup. In the last edition, Markram scored 261 runs with a strike rate of 137.37 in the 4 innings at Australia. This year Markram and his squad will open their ICC T20 World Cup account against Sri Lanka at Nassau Cricket Stadium in New York.
