The T20 World Cup is the biggest stage that a team can hope for. It comes once every two years, which brings the best T20 teams together to compete against each other. The very first edition was played in 2007, and Team India won it. T20 cricket is known for producing fours and sixes consistently, and fans have witnessed some of the massive scores in just 20 overs.
But then, there have been some occasions when teams found it hard to reach 100 and got out to a very low total. That’s what we will cover here. 10. Bangladesh – 70 All out vs New Zealand in 2016 T20 WC
There have been a few seventies in the T20 World Cups. The lowest one was registered by Bangladesh. It came in the T20 World Cup 201 against New Zealand. It was a Super 10 game at Eden Gardens. Batting first, New Zealand posted a big total of 145/8 in 20 overs. In reply, Bangladesh kept losing wickets in the second over. In the end, they were bowled out for 70 runs in 15.4 overs, and Bangladesh lost the game by 75 runs. This is Bangladesh’s lowest total in the T20 World Cups.
9. Hong Kong – 69 All out vs Nepal in 2014 T20 WC
Associate nations find it a bit tough when they play in big tournaments. That’s where they crumbled. Hong Kong registered one of the lowest scores. They had a poor game against Nepal during the 2014 T20 World Cup at Chattogram. It was the second game of the tournament. Nepal scored 149/8 in the first inning. But Hong Kong failed badly. They only managed 69 runs in 17 overs. Only three batters scored in double digits, and Hong Kong lost by 80 runs.
8. Ireland – 68 All out vs West Indies in 2010 T20 WC
Ireland are one of the recent teams to gain the status of a test-playing nation. But in their initial history, they have had a rusty start to the game. That’s where they managed some low scores. One of them came in the 2010 T20 World Cup. It came against West Indies in Providence. Ireland bowled well and restricted West Indies to just 138/9 in the first inning. But their batters didn’t support the bowlers. Chasing the score, Ireland only managed 68 runs in 16.4 overs and lost by 70 runs. The highest score in the second inning was 19, which were extras.
7. Scotland – 60 All out vs Afghanistan in 2021 T20 WC
Afghanistan registered one of the biggest win in the T20 World Cups, which came in 2021 editions. It was the 17th game between Scotland and Afghanistan in Sharjah. Batting first, Afghnistan posted a big total of 190/4 with some good batting performances. Afghanistan also dominated in the second innings. Scotland were bowled out for just 60 runs in 10.2 overs and lost by a big margin of 130 runs. Mujeeb-ur-Rahman (5/20) and Rashid Khan (4/9) bowled superbly.
6. New Zealand – 60 All out vs Sri Lanka in 2014 T20 WC
High-scoring games give you excitement, but low-scoring games are full of thrills. One such game was registered in the 2014 T20 World Cup between Sri Lanka and New Zealand in Chattogram. Sri Lanka got all out for 119 runs in the first inning. New Zealand had the game in their hands, but Rangana Herath had a super spell. He took five wickets for just 3 runs in 3.3 overs, and New Zealand got all out for 60 runs in 15.3 overs. Sri Lanka won the game by 59 runs.
5. Uganda – 58 All out vs Afghanistan in 2024 T20 WC
Uganda made their debut in the T20 World Cup during the 2024 edition. Though it didn’t go well for them but they registered a memorable win in the competition. However, in a game against Afghanistan, they also suffered a heavy defeat by 125 runs. Afghanistan posted a total of 183/5 and bowled Uganda out for just 58 runs in 16 overs. Fazalhaq Farooqi picked up 5/9 in the game. Only two batters for Uganda crossed the 10-run mark in that inning.
4. West Indies – 55 All out vs England in 2021 T20 WC
West Indies had many on-and-off memories of the T20 World Cups. They have won the title twice in their history but are also in very poor form. They have an unwanted record for the lowest score for a test-playing nation in T20 World Cups. That score came against England in Dubai at the 2021 T20 World Cup. Batting first, West Indies scored only 55 runs in 14.2 overs. Chris Gayle was the top scorer with 13 runs and the only one to cross the 10-run mark. England made 56/4 in 8.2 overs and won the game. This is the lowest total for a full-member team.
3. Netherlands – 44 All out vs Sri Lanka in 2021 T20 WC
Netherlands have registered two of the top three lowest totals in the T20 World Cups, and both came against Sri Lanka. The second-lowest came against Sri Lanka during the 2021 T20 World Cup in Sharjah. Sri Lanka won the toss and put Netherlands to bat first. Lahiru Kumara (3/7) and Wanindu Hasaranga (3/9) dismantled the Dutch batting order, and they were bowled out for 44 runs in 10 overs, which had 6 extra runs. Sri Lanka made 45/2 in 7.1 overs and won the game.
2. Netherlands – 39 All out vs Sri Lanka in 2014 T20 WC
The shorter completed game in the T20 World Cup was registered in the 2014 edition between Netherlands and Sri Lanka in Chattogram. This was the 19th game of the tournament, and Sri Lanka won the toss and put Netherlands to bat first. Angelo Mathews (3/16) and Ajantha Mendis (3/12) bowled well, and Netherlands were bowled out for 39 runs in 10.3 overs. Sri Lanka made 40/1 in 5 overs, and this match was completed in 15.3 overs.

The joint-lowest score in the T20 World Cups was registered by Uganda. It came against West Indies during the 2024 T20 World Cup. It was the 18th game in Providence, and West Indies scored a total of 173/5. It was a big score for a team like Uganda. That’s what happened, and they were bowled out for just 39 runs in 12 overs. Akeal Hosein took a brilliant figure of 5/11 and lost the game by 134 runs.
