After becoming the captain of the 2023 T20I Team of the Year, Indian batter Suryakumar Yadav has now been named T20I Cricketer of the Year for 2023 by the International Cricket Council (ICC) for the second time in a row. The numero uno T20I batter won this award for the year 2022 and now reclaimed the title for his tremendous performance in the shortest format in 2023.
Continuing his glorious form in the T20Is for another year, Suryakumar Yadav finished as the third-highest run of the format in 2023 with 733 runs from 18 matches at an average of 48.86 and a strike rate of 155.95, along with two centuries and five half-centuries.
Suryakumar started the 2023 season by finishing as the top run scorer in the home T20I series against Sri Lanka. The right-handed amassed 170 runs in three matches at an average of 85.00 and a strike rate of 175.25m with a half-century and a hundred. He scored his career-best 112 runs off 51 balls in a series-decider at the Saurashtra Cricket Association Stadium on 7th January 2023 as India defeated Sri Lanka by 91 runs to clinch the series by 2-1.
After establishing himself as one of the top cricketers in T20Is, Suryakumar Yadav made his mark as the captain of the Indian T20I side and led the team to a 4-1 victory against Australia in his maiden series as the Indian skipper. He was also appointed as India’s captain for the T20I series against South Africa in December. The three-match ended by 1-1 and Suryakumar led the Indian team from the front by becoming the highest-run getter of the series with 156 runs at an average of 78.00. He scored his fourth T20I ton in the third and final match of the series and became the batter with the second-most number of hundreds in the shortest format. Suryakumar scored 100 runs off 56 runs in the final T20I at the Wanderers Stadium as India defeated the Proteas by 106 runs to level the series.
Rachin Ravindra named ICC Emerging Player of the Year by ICC
New Zealand young batting sensation Rachin Ravindra has won the ICC Emerging Player of the Year award for 2023. The 24-year-old claimed the title with players like Yashasvi Jaiswal, Dilshan Madhushanka and Gerald Coetzee as nominees.
Ravindra has shown tremendous form with the bat last year, especially during the 2023 ODI World Cup in India. Ravindra showed tremendous performance in his maiden World Cup campaign for New Zealand as he finished as the fourth-highest run-getter of the tournament with 578 runs from 10 matches at an average of 64.22 with 3 centuries and two half-centuries.
Rachin Ravindra was the consistent performer for New Zealand in the ODI World Cup last year and played a key role for the Black Caps to qualify for the semi-final. He announced his World Cup campaign in style by scoring 123 runs in the opening match against England in Ahmedabad as New Zealand thrashed the previous-time champions by 9 wickets to kickstart their journey in the tournament.
