The South Africa T20 League (SA20) is one of the newest franchise tournaments in the world. It was introduced by Cricket Australia in 2023, and it has hosted multiple seasons until now. The maiden season took place back in 2023. Six franchises from the Indian Premier League showed their interest and signed for teams in SA20. It is a six-team tournament, and teams are shortlisted on the basis of top cities in South Africa.
It is played once every year and produces an action-packed cricket carnival for fans around the world. 1. Sunrisers Eastern Cape – 2023

The inaugural season of the SA20 was held in 2023. It had 33 matches and was played in double-round robin format. Sunrisers Eastern Cape, under the captaincy of Aiden Markram, were very lucky to make it to the semifinals. They finished the group stage in third place with 19 points. There were two others with the same points, but because Eastern Cape had a better NRR, they made it to the semis.
They faced the Joburg Super Kings in the semifinal. Captain Markram slammed a century and scored 100 off 58 balls to help the team win the semi and make it to the final. They then faced the Pretoria Capitals in the finals. Roelof van der Merwe bowled a superb spell of 4/31, and the Capitals were bowled out for 135 runs. Eastern Cape scored 137/6 to win the final and made history. They became the first team to lift the trophy, and captain Markram became the Player of the Tournament.
2. Sunrisers Eastern Cape – 2024

Aiden Markram showed in 2024 that the first title win was not a fluke. They went on to defend their title by winning the second season as well. This time Sunrisers Eastern Cape finished the group stage at the top of the table with 33 points. They faced Durban Super Giants in Qualifier 1.
The Eastern Cape won Qualifier 1 by 51 runs to book a ticket in the final. Ottniel Baartman bowled a brilliant spell of 4/10 to win Player of the Match award. In the final, Eastern Cape faced the challenge from Durban Super Giants once again. This time Marco Jansen’s 5/30 helped them to win the game by 89 runs and lift the trophy for the second time in a row.
