Shubman Gill started his captain’s journey earlier than any other player. Gill assisted Prithvi Shaw as a Vice-captain and won the ICC Under-19 World Cup 2017-2018. The stalwart batter Gill amassed  372 in five innings at an average of 124 and a strike rate 112.38. 

Gill also led the India C in the  2019/20 Deodhar Trophy of an A-List Tournament finishing a runner-up with scoring 145 runs in 3 games. He also led India A for South Africa and a New Zealand Tour in 2020. 

However, Shubman Gill still has to cross a long road to lead Team India in the ODI Cricket format. In his ODI career, Shubman Gill played 44 matches and scored 2271 runs with an average of 61.37 and a 103.46 strike rate.

BCCI has confirmed that Rohit Sharma will be the captain for Test and ODI cricket ahead of the Champions Trophy 2025 and World Test Championship Final. Looks like Shubman Gill still has to wait for a year or two to gain enough experience to lead the squad for Test cricket. 

During his International Test cricket career, Shubman Gill has only played 25 matches and batted in the 46 innings. With his 128-highest score, Shubman Gill bagged a total of 1492 runs with an average of 35.52 and 59.37 strike rate.
