Gaddafi Stadium previously known as Lahore Stadium, was originally built in 1959 later it was renamed after Libyan leader Muammar Gaddafi. It was designed by the architect & civil engineer Nasreddin Murat-Khan and constructed by Mian Abdul Khaliq and Company in Lahore, Punjab. It is the fourth-largest cricket stadium in Pakistan.
Located in Lahore, one of the biggest cities in Pakistan, Gaddafi Stadium is owned and managed by the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB). The headquarters of the PCB is also situated in the Lahore stadium which makes it the home ground of the Pakistan National Cricket Team. It serves as a home ground for the Lahore Qalandars in the Pakistan Super League.
Back in the day, Gaddafi Stadium held a capacity of 65,250 spectators until the renovations in 1995. The redesigning of the stadium reduced the capacity to 27,000 spectators. The stadium was completely renovated and replaced all the concrete seats with plastic ones to get ready for the 1996 World Cup. It was the very first cricket ground in Pakistan which had fully equipped floodlights.
