In-form South Africa are all set to take on the struggling Pakistan team in match number 26 of the ongoing 2023 ODI World Cup at the M.A Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai on 27 October.
The Proteas are currently in red-hot form with four wins from five matches played so far. Their only loss in the tournament was an upset that came against the Netherlands in Dharamshala on 17th October. Their batting lineup looks unbeatable with Quinton de Kock being the top run scorer of the tournament with 407 runs from the five matches so far at an average of 81.40 with three centuries. Along with him, Heinrich Klaasen, Aiden Markram, and Rassie van der Dussen had a great impact in the batting with acceleration in the middle and death overs. South Africa made the highest score by a team in the ICC World Cup when they posted a mammoth 428 runs for the loss of 5 wickets against Sri Lanka in their opening match of the tournament in Delhi.
South Africa have registered some big wins against strong teams like Australia and England and made themselves one of the strong contenders to qualify for the semi-finals. However, in all four matches, they have won by defending a total and failed to chase a target against the Netherlands in a rain-affected encounter. They will be looking for another huge win against Pakistan and get closer to the semi-finals.
Talking about Pakistan, they started their World Cup campaign well with a convincing win against the Netherlands in their first match and then broke the highest successful run chase in a World Cup by chasing down a target of 345 runs against Sri Lanka in their second fixture of the tournament. However, Shaheen lost momentum and went on to lose three consecutive games against India, Australia, and even Afghanistan who registered their second win of the tournament. The 1992 champions will be looking to get back to their winning ways against the in-form South African side and have their chances to get into the semis.
