The unbeaten team India is set for the 2023 ICC Cricket World Cup final at the Narendra Modi Stadium in Ahmedabad on 19th November. The hosts continued their dominance in the tournament and broke the semi-final curse against New Zealand on Wednesday to enter their fourth World Cup final.
Now India have a great opportunity to win their third ODI World Cup title and second in front of their home crowd after 2011. However, for India to achieve glory, it is important that the players give their best in every department and convert half-chances into full. It will be interesting to see how the Indian bowlers soak the pressure and come on top against the opponent batters in the title clash. Indian bowlers especially pacers have been in red-hot form throughout the tournament and have succeeded in providing early breakthroughs in almost every game.
The main anchor of the Indian bowling lineup in the 2023 World Cup has been Mohammed Shami. The right-arm pacer didn’t get to play the first four games in the league stage and is now the leading wicket-taker of the tournament with 23 scalps from just six matches at an average of 9.13 and an economy rate of 5.01.
Shami turned out to be the star performer for India in the semi-final against New Zealand in Mumbai on Wednesday as he registered the best bowling figures by an Indian in ODIs and guided India to a famous win to enter the World Cup final. He took 7 wickets by conceding 57 runs in 9.5 overs as India bowled New Zealand out for 327 runs and won the match by 70 runs.
Most importantly, Shami delivered when the rest of the bowlers looked out of touch and took the big wicket of Kane Williamson in the 33rd over after his 181-run partnership with Daryl Mitchell. That breakthrough turned out to be game-changing as New Zealand couldn’t make a comeback from that point and ended up losing wickets at regular intervals.
