Not many know that before Babar Azam, it was Mohammad Rizwan who led Pakistan in the longest format. He made his captaincy debut in 2020-21 in a test series in New Zealand. Though it wasn’t a great start, and he lost two out of two. Later, in October 2024, he became the full-time captain of Pakistan for white-ball series.

He has led Pakistan in all three departments. Overall, he has led the country in 10 games and have four wins, while the remaining six games have been lost. But it is still, he is very new with this captaincy role, and there is a long way to go.

Mohammad Rizwan Captaincy Records in Tests

In 2020/21, Mohammad Rizwan became the 33rd player to lead Pakistan in the longest format of the game. He has led in only two games, which came against New Zealand. But unfortunately, Pakistan lost both matches under him. As captain, he scored 202 runs in two tests at an average of 50.50 with three half-centuries. Overall, he has played 35 Tests and has scored 2009 runs with three centuries and 10 half-centuries.

In October 2024, the Pakistan Cricket Board (PCB) appointed Mohammad Rizwan as the full-time captain for both white-ball formats. His first assignment as ODI captain was against Australia in Australia. And it was a historic series for Pakistan as Rizwan led them to a bilateral ODI series win in Australia after 22 years. Rizwan has led Pakistan in six ODIs and won four of them. With the bat, he has scored 130 runs in four innings as captain at an average of 65.
