LPL-Lanka Premier League is a twenty twenty format tournament which began on 1st August 2025 and is set to bring on the thriller for a month in a row with its finale scheduled on 21st August 2025.
With a total of 5 esteemed teams, this LPL will follow a round robin format where teams will be going against one another in head-to-head matches in the league stage, and then the top four teams of the tournament will be going against one another in the Semi-Final clash.
The LPL first edition was inaugurated in the year 2020 at the time of the COVID-19 and as of now has seen three champions in a row. The Inaugural season of the league was won by the Jaffna Stallions, where they successfully defeated Galle Gladiators by 53 runs. And since the next edition, LPL has seen Jaffna Kings winning three seasons, including the last edition in 2024, while B-Love Candy won in 2023.

Inaugurated in the year 2020, LPL is being organised every year annually without a miss since its inception in the times of COVID-19 and has seen 5 successful editions till now.
Jaffna Kings hold the record for the maximum number of trophies, having won thrice, two under the name of the Jaffna Kings and one under the name of Jaffna Stallions, and yet again are ready to win the next fourth title in their names in the ongoing LPL 2025 edition. Last year’s title was won by the Jaffna Kings, who are the current title holders of the LPL 2024 Season.

With the most titles in their name, Jaffna Kings remain the most successful team of the whole edition since its inception in 2020. With the fifth edition in the running, a total of five teams will be competing for the ultimate title and will be fighting to gain the trophy glory in their name.
It would be interesting to note that whether the defending champions will fight for their crown again this year or like the last edition B Love Kandy will take on the lead with a win in their name or a whole new scenario will unfold with a new team making the ultimate championship in their names as the winner. With a strong history of fostering domestic talent, the LPL is all set to provide another platform for upcoming stars to shine.
