There are only three times. In Indian Premier League history, a bowler took six wickets in an innings. That’s in 2008 by Sohail Tanvir, in 2016 by Adam Zampa, and in 2019 by Alzarri Joseph.
1. Alzarri Joseph
Alzarri Joseph delivered an extraordinary performance in his Indian Premier League debut game. On April 6, 2019 at Rajiv Gandhi International Stadium, Uppal, Hyderabad, Joseph registered the best bowling figure record of the IPL.
Joseph bowled just 3.4 overs and got six wickets. This is the only third time a bowler has a six-wicket haul in the IPL. The right-arm fast bowler also bowled a maiden over in that match.
Alzarri Joseph bowled an incredible spell with an economy of 3.27 and only conceded 12 runs. The West Indies quick bowler put in an exceptional effort in his bowling and got six Sunrisers Hyderabad batters out. Joseph dismissed David Warner bowled, and Vijay Shankar caught out to Hardik Pandya in his first two overs. Then he gets Deepak Hooda and Bhuvneshwar Kumar bowled out. Joseph got Rashid Khan wicket by caught and bowled, and Sidharth Kaul got caught behind to de kock.
In the low-scoring encounter, Joseph’s individual brilliance helped the Mumbai Indians win the match by 40 runs. Joseph totally took the game away from the Sunrisers Hyderabad hands. For this incredible performance, Joseph gets the player of the match award as well.
2. Sohail Tanvir
The first ever six-wicket haul in the Indian Premier League was achieved by Sohail Tanvir. A left-arm fast bowler claimed this record in the first season of the IPL in 2008. Tanvir bowled an amazing spell against the Chennai Super Kings at Sawai Mansingh Stadium, Jaipur, on May 4, 2008.
Tanvir dismissed six Chennai batters by just giving up 19 runs in his spell. Tanvir bowled with an economy of 4.75 and got six wickets in the Mega T20 League.
Playing for the Rajasthan Royals Tanvir first dismissed both Chennai Super Kings openers Parthiv Patel and Stephen Fleming by leg before wicket. Tanvir gets Vidyut Sivaramakrishnan caught by Shane Warne. Pakistani pacer bowler cleaned up the stumps of CSK tail enders. The last three dismissals of Tanvir in that game were by Albie Morkel, Muthiah Muralidaran, and Makhaya Ntini.
Sohail Tanvir took the most wickets in the 2008 Indian Premier League season. Tanvir took 22 wickets and became the first player to win the Purple Cap.
3. Adam Zampa
Adam Zampa is the only spinner who gets six wicket haul in the Indian Premier League. The Australian spin bowler got this record playing for Rising Pune Supergiant against Sunrisers Hyderabad. On May 10, 2016, at Visakhapatnam, Zampa delivered an impactful performance; in his four overs, he conceded only 19 runs and dismissed six batters. Zampa bowled with an exceptional 4.75 economy.
Leg spinner took six wickets in the first innings by dismissing the star batters of Sunrisers Hyderabad. Zampa, get out Kane Williamson, Yuvaraj Singh, Moises Henriques, Deepak Hooda, Naman Ojha, and Bhuvneshwar Kumar. Zampa gets those six batters out by bowled one, stumping one, and caught four batters.
Unfortunately, Rising Pune Supergiant was not able to chase down a low total and lost by 4 runs. Zampa was awarded Player of the Match for his brilliant bowling.
