Since the inception of Lucknow Super Giants as a new IPL franchise, the degree of competitiveness is skyrocketing. After the inauguration of LSG in 2022, LSG finished third successively in both IPL 2022 and IPL 2023. Even though the team lost the Eliminator both times, LSG positioned themselves as warriors who fight till the end. However, IPL 2024 was a poor season as the team witnessed a downfall in the form. The opponents gave a reason for the team to fix certain things ahead of IPL 2025.
Indian star wicket-keeper batter KL Rahul took responsibility for captaincy in the previous three seasons. In his first Eliminator match, he hit a half-century, but in the next eliminator, he was unavailable, giving a chance to a stand-in captain Krunal Pandya. A wicket-keeper batter from West Indies Nicholas Pooran did captaincy for one match in IPL 2024. However, in IPL 2025, Rishabh Pant is appointed as the captain replacing KL Rahul who will be playing for Delhi Capitals. KL Rahul led LSG in IPL 2024 as a full-time captain, but the team went downhill winning seven matches and losing on equal occasions out of 14 games. With the replacement of captain in the form of Rishabh Pant and the formation of a new squad, it is expected that LSG will perform better in IPL 2025.
Selecting Rishabh Pant as a captain is marked by the adequate experience and passion he holds. In ICC World Cup 2024, he amassed 171 runs in 8 innings at a strike rate of 127.61. Pant was explosive with bat in IPL 2024 with a strike rate of 155.40 and average of 40.54 wiith highest score as unbeatable 88 runs. He was a key player for Delhi Capitals from 2016 and produced efforts as their skipper from 2021 to 2024, except for 2023 as he faced a severe car accident. Pant is traded to LSG ahead of IPL 2025 and the management affirmed faith in him as a captain as he plays with proactive approach and communicates strongly with players.
LSG Captains List From 2022 to 2025
LSG have been switching the captains since their arrival in the cash rich league. From KL Rahul to Nicholas Pooran, there have been three captains in previous editions. While KL Rahul guided the team to two playoffs, Krunal Pandya stepped in as a stand-in skipper for six fixtures held in IPL 2023. Pooran served as a captain in just one game in IPL 2024 which concluded in a triumph. As no captain for LSG has achieved the feat of playing IPL final, Rishabh Pant is being welcomed as a skipper to take over the leadership from KL Rahul. Here, you can check the stats for captains leading Lucknow Super Giants since their inaugural edition in 2022.
