With the wrap-up of the 2024 IPL 17th edition, BCCI is once again engaged in the upcoming gala of IPL 2025, the 18th edition of the tournament. In the thrilling IPL 2024 Final Kolkata Knight Riders clinched their third IPL Trophy by beating Sunrisers Hyderabad at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai.
Knight Riders repeated the feat after the 2014 IPL winning a title against Punjab Kings and registering a record for the longest winning streak of 14 games by any IPL Franchise. Undoubtedly, IPL 2024 was one of the most memorable editions so far with record-breaking high-scoring matches.
Now BCCI has already started prepping for the IPL 2025 Mega Auction 2025. Yes, unlike previous editions of 2023 and 2024 IPL, there will no longer be an IPL Mini auction.
Ahead of IPL 2025, BCCI will have a meeting with all IPL owners at the end of July. A few decisions will be made over the discussion of the RTM (Right to match) card, the salary cap increasing by 120 Crore, and the salary cap of top retained players.

IPL 2025 Mega Auction Venue
The previous IPL 2024 edition had a Mini IPL Auction at Coca-Cola Arena in Dubai. It was the first time in 16 years of the tournament the IPL Auction was held overseas due to the wedding season in India in December 2023.
BCCI has made it clear there will be no mini auction instead IPL 2025 will have a Mega Auction where the IPL franchise will bet on players to make a whole new team. It makes sense the Mega Auction will be more grandeur in 2024-2025 than the previous one.
It is expected that after the IPL 2024 Mini Auction success, Dubai will be on top of the IPL 2025 Mega Auction venue list including, Bengaluru, Kochi, Chennai, and Mumbai.
The BCCI hasn’t released the official statement for the IPL 2025 Mega Auction Venue city. We will update you as soon as the BCCI confirms the venue.
IPL 2025 Mega Auction Date and Time
BCCI conducts an IPL Auction before commencing the actual tournament in each edition. For the 18th edition of IPL, BCCI will organize the Mega IPL Auction with the slightest modification. Mostly this auction takes two days in which IPL franchises place bets on their favorite players conducted in December in the same year as the previous edition. However, it is speculated that the IPL 2025 Mega Auction will take place between December 2024 to February 2025.
There is no official statement released from the BCCI regarding the IPL 18 Mega Auction date. We will update the IPL Mega Auction 2025 date as soon as the official statement confirms the date.
IPL 2025 Mega Auction Teams and Salary Cap
The BCCI increased the IPL budget per team last year from INR 95 Crore to INR 100 Crore. Ahead of the BCCI and IPL franchise meeting, it could be possible that the IPL Budget will go over RS 100 Crore expected to rise to INR 120 Crore. Which will also affect the retention value for each player. In the past, the salary of the top retained players was around 16-17 percent of the salary cap (INR 15 crore in a salary cap of INR 90 crore). This means the retained players’ salary will be lifted upto 20 Crore or more. The formula to determine the salary cap of retained players in the 2025 IPL will also be explained by the BCCI in the meeting.
IPL 2025 Mega Auction: Teams
A total of 10 IPL franchises based on domestic cities participate in the IPL tournament every year. Few teams go through some minor changes like altering their names.
