When GT made their debut, they signed Hardik for a price of INR 15 crore and appointed him the captain. Along with Ashish Nehra and Gary Kirsten, Hardik made GT a successful team. He won the 2022 season by beating Rajasthan Royals in the finals. Even in the second season, he took them to the finals, but unfortunately, they lost to Chennai Super Kings. He became one of the few captains to lead a team to consecutive finals.
