The IPL 2024 auction is set to take place in the first couple of weeks of December 2023. There are a bunch of players who might get high bids in the auctions after their performance in the recently ended ICC Cricket World Cup in India. One of the players to look out for in the auction is Rachin Ravindra. The New Zealand batting all-rounder has been in breathtaking form in the World Cup as he amassed 578 runs in 10 matches at an average of 64.22, along with two half-centuries and three centuries.
Apart from batting, Ravindra can also play the role of a handy spin bowler who can control the run rate and take wickets at crucial moments. He is likely to appear in the IPL 2024 auction and the team will be looking to spend a huge purse to get him into their squad for the upcoming season. Here, we will have a look at the top five franchises that can bid for Rachin Ravindra in the IPL auction.
Delhi Capitals
Delhi Capitals (DC) might be looking to spend their purse for Rachin Ravindra in the IPL 2024 auction. DC batting turned out to be a failure in IPL 2023, as they were dependent on only 2-3 players to take charge of the batting lineup. David Warner and Axar Patel were only consistent scorers for DC who were playing without their main skipper Rishabh Pant. Apart from that, none of the players could make an impact with their bat. This was the main reason for DC’s early exit from the playoffs race in IPL 2023. By bidding for Rachin Ravindra in the upcoming auction, DC will be looking to provide stability to their batting line-up. He could be an option for an opening partner for David Warner and can also bat at number three. However, Mitchell Marsh is also in good form since the 2023 World Cup, and Rishabh Pant is also expected to make a comeback during the IPL 2024. Along with this, the inclusion of Rachin Ravindra could make DC a batting powerhouse in IPL 2024. He can also play the role of an extra spin-bowler for DC along with Axar Patel and Kuldeep Yadav onboard.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) had a disappointing outing in IPL 2023 as they failed to qualify for the playoffs for the first time since 2020. They won seven out of 14 league matches and finished in the sixth spot at the points table. It looks like RCB were totally dependent upon their main batters like the skipper Faf du Plessis, Virat Kohli and Glenn Maxwell to take charge of the batting lineup in IPL 2023. These three were the consistent scorers for RCB throughout the season but none of the other batters could make an impact with their bat. RCB lacked acceleration in the middle overs due to which they missed out on a big total many times despite having a great start. Rachin Ravindra could fill in the place of a batter who can provide a quick start to RCB and also maintain the run rate in the middle overs. RCB could bid for as an opening partner along with Faf du Plessis with Virat Kohli batting at number three. They have also added Cameron Green in their lineup for the IPL 2024 and the inclusion of Ravindra could make them a power-packed batting lineup in the tournament. Ravindra can also fill in the place of an extra bowler for RCB as a left-arm spinner.
Mumbai Indians
The five-time champions Mumbai Indians (MI) are known for investing in youngsters and they could bid for Rachin Ravindra in the upcoming IPL auction. However, MI already have a balanced squad for IPL 2024, and they have recently bought back Hardik Pandya from Gujarat Titans which provides more strength to their lineup. Apart from this, the addition of Ravindra in the squad can make the MI squad more strong than the rest of the teams. A top-order batter who could change the course of the game at any time and a spin bowler who could give big breakthroughs in clutch moments, Rachin Ravindra could be the best choice for MI.
Punjab Kings
Punjab Kings (PBKS) could bid for Rachin Ravindra in IPL 2024 auction as they desperately need a good top-order batter for the upcoming season. PBKS’ batting lineup was mostly dependent on the skipper Shikhar Dhawan in IPL 2023. Ravindra could bat as an opening partner along with Dhawan which can make him bat more freely or without any pressure. PBKS lacked good starts in IPL 2023 and Ravindra could be the best choice for them to fill in the gaps.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) had a forgettable season in IPL 2023 as they finished on the last spot in the points table with just four wins from 14 matches. They had some star players in their squad but none of them could lift the expectations which was the reason for SRH’s failure in the previous season. One of the biggest disappointments for SRH was England’s Harry Brook, for whom the franchise spent a big purse of INR 13.25 crore but he couldn’t perform as per his price tag. Now that SRH have released Brook ahead of the auction, they will be looking to fill his place with Rachin Ravindra who can be a dependable batter for them in IPL 2024.
