Delhi Capitals (DC) saw the return of captain Rishabh Pant in the IPL 2024, and the team did well under his captaincy. They finished sixth on the table and missed the playoff spot because of a bad NRR. They struggled in the first half of the tournament, but they had a tremendous second half of the season where they won consecutive games. But the tournament is over, and now the question is who will be retained.
The IPL 2025 will have a mega auction where every IPL team is only allowed to retain four players. DC has a lot of performers that have been with the team for years now. So it will be a tough decision to make for the franchise. However, there are a few who are sure to be retained. 1. Rishabh Pant
After missing the 2023 edition, Rishabh Pant made his IPL comeback in 2024. And he certainly impressed everyone with his performances. Pant was the top scorer for the team. He scored 446 runs at an average of 40.50 and a strike rate of 155.40 with three half-centuries. Being the captain of the team, he is likely to be retained. He is also the future captain of India, and the franchise will not look to release him and appoint another captain.
2. Axar Patel
Axar Patel has been part of DC for a long time now. He has been retained by the franchise twice already, in 2020 and 2021, respectively. He had a brilliant IPL 2024 season. Axar scored 235 runs with the bat and took 11 wickets with the ball. He has improved as an all-rounder and now contributes in every department of the game. That ability is very rare for an Indian player. That’s why we believe that the franchise won’t risk releasing him, and he will be retained.
3. Kuldeep Yadav
Kuldeep Yadav is currently one of the best white-ball spinners in the world. He is a game-changer in T20s, and still many batters fail to pick his variations. Kuldeep picked up 16 wickets in 11 games in 2024 and was one of the leading wicket-takers for the team. He is performing consistently for Team India as well, and every team will want to have him if he enters the auction. So we believe that DC will retain him because there are not many spinners of his caliber in Indian cricket.
4. Jake Fraser McGurk
Jake Fraser McGurk brought his fearless approach to the team. The Australian youngster will be among the next generation of match-winners for Australia. He was just unstoppable and showed how things can be changed with the intent. Jake scored 330 runs off just 141 balls at a strike rate of 234.04 and won the EV Electric Striker of the Season award. He is only 22 years old and will be carrying on the Australian legacy in the IPL in the coming years.
