CSK Head Coach, CSK Coaching and Support Staff for IPL 2025

The Chennai Super Kings (CSK) are a professional cricket team based in Chennai, Tamil Nadu, India. They are one of the most successful teams in the IPL and have been part of the tournament since its inaugural season in 2008. 

Chennai Super Kings is one of the best teams in the IPL franchise and has won the title multiple times. There is a huge support staff behind the scenes that contributes to the overall success of the franchise. Let’s take a deeper look :

CSK Head Coach & Support Staff

CSK Owner: N. Srinivasan

CSK of the IPL is owned by India Cements Limited through their holding company, Chennai Super Kings Cricket Limited. The team was originally sold to India Cement in 2008 but ownership was then transferred to Chennai Super Kings Cricket in December 2014.

N. Srinivasan, who was the managing director of India Cements at that time, is often recognized as the current owner of the team.

CSK Chief Executive Officer (CEO): Kasinath Viswanathan

Kasinath Vishwanathan has been the CEO of the Chennai Super Kings since the time of its inception. He has a background in cricket that includes both junior and senior levels in district leagues. He moved to Madras (now Chennai) in 1968 for further studies at Vekhananda College, continued to play the cricket sport.

However, after graduation, Vishwanathan joined the accounts department of the India Cements, eventually moving away from playing league cricket in 1986 to focus on work. His journey with the CSK began when N.Shrinivasan the chief director of the india cements, appointed him to manage the cricketing affairs of the CSK franchise.

He has played a major role and has been actively involved in player selection and other affairs ever since.

CSK Head Coach: Stephen Fleming

Stephen Paul Fleming is a New Zealand coach and former international cricketer, born on April 1, 1973. He is currently the head coach of the IPL team Chennai Super Kings in the 2024 IPL season.

He was appointed as the head coach of the team in 2009 after he retired from international cricket. Under his coach, CSK won the 2010 Champions League. Fleming coached CSK to its second consecutive IPL title in 2011 and its second Champions League Twenty20 title in 2014.

He is known for his strategic brain and has formed a successful partnership with MS Dhoni, contributing to CSK’s status as one of the most successful franchises in the league. Under Fleming’s coaching, CSK won the IPL titles multiple times, including in 2010, 2011, 2018, 2021, and 2023.

CSK Batting Coach: Michael Hussey

Michael Hussey is an Australian cricket coach, commentator and former international cricketer who played in all the forms of the game. He is affectionately known as ‘Mr Cricket’ and had a distinguished career in the Indian Premier League. He was a part of the CSK from 2008 to 2018. 

He had been a consistent performer in the IPL, known for his reliable batting and ability to play match-winning innings. Hussey became the second batsman to score a century in the Kings XI Punjab in 2008. He retired from international cricket in 2012 and from IPL in 2015. 

After he retired from the Indian Premier League, he took over the role of the ‘Batting Coach’ of CSK and has been doing the same ever since. 

CSK Bowling Coach: To Be Announced

Dwayne Bravo was born on October 7, 1983. He is a former West Indian cricketer and the current bowling coach of the Chennai Super Kings. 

He is a right-arm seam bowling all-rounder, well known for his aggressive lower-order batting and his bowling in the final overs of a match. He was regarded as one of the best death bowlers in T20 cricket during that time. 

He was appointed as the bowling coach of CSK after the IPL 2023 season. He made his debut in the IPL as a player in 2008. He began playing for the Mumbai Indians, later switched to CSK and had been a part of the team until his retirement. Bravo ended his IPL playing career as the record wicket-taker with 183 wickets in 158 innings. 

Fielding Coach: Rajiv Kumar

Rajiv Kumar is a former first-class cricketer who played for Bihar and Jharkhand, He currently works as a fielding coach for the Chennai Super Kings. Rajiv’s career spanned from the mid-1990s to 2010. Kumar had captained former captain Mahendra Sigh Dhoni in first-class cricket. 

During his playing career, Kumar played 84 first-class matches, scoring 5,077 runs with the highest score of 164. On the other hand, in T20s, he scored 175 runs with a strike rate of 110.06. He has never been directly involved in the IPL but he was picked as the fielding coach for CSK after delivering remarkable performances in his cricket career. 

Team Doctor: Dr Madhu Thottappillil

Dr. Madhu Thottappllil is an orthopaedic surgeon and sports medicine surgeon based in Chennai, India. She is the founder of the National Sports Medicine Center (NSMC) and has been practicing the same role for two decades.

She is currently appointed as the team doctor for the CSK and as the official doctor to the Board of Cricket Control for South India. She is a specialist in arthroscopic surgeries of the knee and shoulder and has been involved in various sports teams for many years. 

Physical Trainer: Gregory King

Gregory King, also known as Greg King, is a South African former first-class cricketer who later became a well-known fitness coach. He has served as a physical trainer for the Indian and South African international cricket teams and is now a fitness trainer at CSK. 

His role is to prepare the players according to the demands of international cricket, focus on their physical fitness and ensure the players’s peak performances during matches.

Physio: Tommy Simsek

Tommy Simsek is a well-respected cricket physiotherapist in the sport. He is a specialist in healing sports injuries and rehabilitation. His work has played an important role in the fitness and well-being of CSK players for a long time. He started with his journey in the CSK as their team’s medical support and returned as their physio.

Simsek’s role is to ensure each player’s fitness and recovery during the rough IPL seasons. His efforts behind the scenes have contributed to maintaining the team’s overall performance and health. 

Consultant: Sundar Raman

Sundar Raman is an Indian sports business professional with a history in cricket administration. In the initial years of IPL, he served as the Chief Operating Officer from 2008 to 2015. Under his rule, the world saw IPL grow into a globally recognized cricketing event.

Raman played a significant part in the league’s operational management and strategic growth. After leaving the IPL, he joined Reliance Industries Limited as its Sports CEO. In 2021, he was appointed as a consultant by the Chennai Super Kings and has been serving them since then. 

Team Manager: Russell Radhakrishnan 

Russell Radhakrishnan has been the team manager of the Chennai Super Kings for several years. His responsibilities include taking care of the team’s logistics, operations and player welfare to ensure a smoother tournament. His cricket administration has made him a valuable member of the CSK.
