The 17th season of the Indian Premier League is ready to get underway with an exciting clash between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bengaluru on March 22 at MA Chidambaram Stadium in Chennai. All ten teams are ready to showcase their abilities and win the title in 2024. Both teams have a number of good performers with bat and ball.
But the tournament can’t be won with bat and ball alone. A team that also has a good fielding unit always has an edge. Hence, the team that is good in all three aspects always has an upper hand over the opposition. 10. Sunrisers Hyderabad (7.5/10)
The 2016 winning team, Sunrisers Hyderabad, has some exceptional fielders like Glenn Philips, Washington Sundar, Abhishek Sharma, and Rahul Tripathi. But most of their bowlers are not quick movers, which certainly makes an impact in the final overs of the match. Bhuvneshwar Kumar, T. Natarajan, Marco Jansen, Umran Malik, Mayank Markande, and Jaydev Unadkat are not known for their fielding, which is why we have rated SRH 7.5 out of 10.
9. Rajasthan Royals (7.5/10)
Just like SRH, the inaugural season champion Rajasthan Royals also have some players who are exceptional in the outfield. Sanju Samson, Trent Boult, Shimron Hetmyer, and Riyan Parag are among the shift runners on the cricket field. But they also have players like Yuzi Chahal, Ravi Ashwin, Avesh Khan, and Sandeep Sharma who are not as fast as others, and these are players who will be part of the playing XI.
8. Punjab Kings (7.5/10)
Punjab Kings are another team that has a good all-round fielding unit. There have been many brilliant moments in fielding for PBKS in the IPL. Players like Liam Livingstone, Shikhar Dhawan, Jitesh Sharma, and Jonny Bairstow love diving around and are safe catchers in the deep. That makes this team a good fielding side. However, there is another aspect of this. If we look, PBKS has Arshdeep Singh, Harpreet Brar, Harshal Patel, Rahul Chahar, and Prabhsimran Singh, who are not as good as others.
7. Mumbai Indians (8/10)
The five-time champion Mumbai Indians have appointed Hardik Pandya as their captain. Their current squad has good bowlers and batters, but apart from 2 or 3 players, you won’t find many quick movers in the side. Though they are very good catchers, you will find them taking many catches in the deep. Some of their key players, like Piyush Chawla and Jasprit Bumrah, are good in the deep but not as good as Keiron Pollard was.
6. Lucknow Super Giants (8.5/10)
KL Rahul-led Lucknow Super Giants have one of the best fielding units in the competition. If we look at the current squad, they have players everywhere. KL Rahul, Marcus Stoinis, Deepak Hooda, Krunal Pandya, Nicholas Pooran, Ravi Bishnoi, and some others are on their side. They have almost all the basics covered, which makes them a good fielding side in the IPL 2024.
5. Delhi Capitals (8.5/10)
A good fielding side generally has a number of youngsters who are ready to throw them around to take catches or stop runs. Delhi Capitals are also full of young players, which makes them a competitive team in all three departments. Talking about the current squad, players like Tristan Stubbs, David Warner, Mitchell Marsh, Yash Dhull, Axar Patel, and Prithvi Shaw are some brilliant fielders, and we will see many runs saved by these players.
4. Kolkata Knight Riders (8.5/10)
Kolkata Knight Riders have a good bunch of players who are ready to dive around on the field. The franchise certainly has a good team, and the players who aren’t fast have backups. Andre Russell is the prime example and one of the fastest players in the IPL. Shreyas Iyer, Rinku Singh, Nitish Rana, Manish Pandey, and Phil Salt make a quilt fielding team, which is why we think they are among the top.
3. Gujarat Titans (9/10)
The IPL 2024 will be a big challenge for Gujarat Titans because Hardik Pandya has left the team and Shubman Gill will be the captain. It is a mix of young and experienced players. One of the strengths of the team is the quality of the overseas players. Rashid Khan, Kane Williamson, and David Miller are some of the best in their respective domains and are good fielders as well. Meanwhile, GT has also got a good mix of Indian youngsters who are good at fielding, which is why they are at the top.
2. Chennai Super Kings (9/10)
Ravindra Jadeja has the most run-outs, and MS Dhoni has the most catches and stumpings, which makes Chennai Super Kings a complete side with brilliant fielders. Not just these two, but there are some incredible fielders like Ruturaj Gaikwad, Ajinkya Rahane, Rachin Ravindra, and Daryl Mitchell that make CSK an exceptional fielding side in the IPL 2024.
1. Royal Challengers Bangalore (9.5/10)
Virat Kohli, Faf du Plessis, and Glenn Maxwell are probably the best trio that a team can have, and despite their age, they are probably among the top players in the game. A good fielding effort always lifts the morale of the team, and these three produce a number of such moments. Apart from these three, RCB has Dinesh Karthik, Rajat Patidar, and Anuj Rawat, who can field at any position.
