Australian players in IPL: Alongside the West Indies cricketers, Australians, known for having an in-built never-say-die attitude, have always been tempted to get a contract in the IPL, ever since its inception. There is no surprise in the upcoming edition either, as nine out of 10 franchises, except Chennai Super Kings (CSK), at least have one Australian on their roster before they kick off the proceedings.
Who are they? How many are there in every franchise, and what are their salaries? We will find out everything in this article.

Australian Players in IPL 2025 Team
Mumbai Indians
- Tim David
- Jason Behrendorff
Tim David has been Australia’s designated finisher in T20s and has been with the Mumbai Indians ever since making his IPL debut in 2021. Over three seasons, he has played 25 matches and has made a name for himself by striking at 177.87 for his 418-run tally. Many have already projected him as the successor of Kieron Pollard, who has created an illustrious legacy under the leadership of Rohit Sharma.
Jason Behrendorff, an ex-CSK player, played as many as 12 matches for MI in IPL 2023. Unfortunately, this time around, he won’t be available to play, as he suffered a freak accident recently in training. In all, he has played 17 matches and picked up 19 wickets in the competition since making his debut in 2019.
Sunrisers Hyderabad
- Pat Cummins (Salary – INR 18 crore)
- Travis Head (Salary – INR 14 crore)
Pat Cummins and Travis Head, two of Australia’s heroes who handed a major heartbreak to billions of Indian fans in the ODI World Cup last year, will be representing Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) in the coming edition. Both Cummins and Head have been rewarded with hefty paychecks, with the former all set to make his full-time captaincy debut in the competition.
While Cummins has previously played for the Kolkata Knight Riders (KKR) and Delhi Capitals (formerly Delhi Daredevils), Head has represented Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) in the past.
Delhi Capitals
- Mitch Marsh
The Australian all-rounder is all set to lead his side in the upcoming T20 World Cup in the USA and the West Indies. Do we need to say anything else about how much value he brings to the table?
2. David Warner
Probably Australia’s greatest opener in white-ball cricket, David Warner has seen tremendous success in the IPL over the years. Hence, his presence at the top of Delhi’s order gives the franchise a major boost.
3. Jhye Richardson
Jhye Richardson did not get much success with the Punjab Kings, or with the Mumbai Indians. This will be a new challenge for him, and who knows he can replicate his BBL heroics here as well.
4. Jake Fraser-McGurk
Similar to Richardson. Fraser-McGurk is a popular name in the Big Bash League. He is still young, and all set to make his debut in the competition.
With Ricky Ponting, one of Australia’s all-time greats, taking on the head coach’s responsibilities, it is no surprise that the Delhi Capitals have the most Australian recruits in their squad. They have Mitchell Marsh and David Warner—two of Australia’s fearsome top-order batters—to boast, and the likes of BBL stars Jhye Richardson and Jake Fraser-McGurk have joined them to make them look even stronger.
Notably, Warner was DC’s captain in IPL 2023 in the absence of Rishabh Pant. He will take the deputy’s role this time around, with Rishabh all set to be at the helm yet again.
Kolkata Knight Riders
- Mitchell Starc
Kolkata Knight Riders have only one Australian in their unit, but that one Australian is equal to almost two if not three. No wonder Gautam Gambhir & Co. went all out for Mitchell Starc to bolster their bowling attack and ended up making him the most expensive player in the competition’s history.
Starc is back in the IPL, having made his debut way back in 2014 for RCB, and only played two seasons till 2015. This is going to be an interesting comeback, given the fact that there is a lot of responsibility on his shoulders, especially due to the fat price tag.
Royal Challengers Bangalore
- Cameron Green
- Glenn Maxwell
Two of the most destructive hitters of the white ball, Cam Green and Glenn Maxwell will play together for RCB in the IPL 2025. Both Green and Maxwell have a contract over INR 10 crore, and needless to say, a lot of responsibilities will be on them given the fact that they don’t have a prolific bowling attack to be proud of.
While Maxwell represented Delhi Daredevils, Kings XI Punjab (now Punjab Kings), and Mumbai Indians in the past, Green only played for Mumbai Indians, and that too in IPL 2023. Unlike most foreigners, he made an immediate impact in his debut season.
Gujarat Titans
- Spencer Johnson
- Matthew Wade
Gujarat Titans, the IPL 2022 champions, had Matthew Wade as an Australian earlier. Now, they have Spencer Johnson, one of the rising prospects of Australian cricket, in their squad. The Titans have invested heavily in Johnson, having spent INR 10 crore on him after missing out on Starc.
This will be Johnson’s debut IPL season, whereas Wade, the veteran wicket-keeper batsman, made his debut in the competition way back in 2011.
Lucknow Super Giants
- Marcus Stoinis
- Ashton Turner
Fondly called the Hulk, Marcus Stoinis plays for Lucknow Super Giants (LSG) in the IPL. He previously played for RCB, and the Punjab-based franchise, but in LSG, he has been a pillar of their middle-order, unlike others.
To join him, Ashton Turner, one of the veterans in the Big Bash League (BBL), will be part of KL Rahul and his boys. Turner made his IPL debut in 2019 but has never been picked by any franchise since then. Stoinis, on the other hand, has been a constant since IPL 2016.
Rajasthan Royals
- Adam Zampa
It is rare to see an overseas spinner get an IPL contract, given the fact that India has produced plenty of skilled wizards over the years. Yet, considering Zampa‘s brilliance, the Rajasthan Royals have added him to their force, having spent INR 1.5 crore ahead of last year’s edition.
It is important to note that Zampa debuted in the IPL way back in 2016, and has played for RCB in the past.
Punjab Kings
- Nathan Ellis
The last but not the least Australian on the list is Nathan Ellis, who played impressively well in IPL 2023 for the Punjab Kings. Ellis made his IPL debut in 2021 but was not a regular like he was in the previous edition. In 10 matches, he took 13 wickets last time, with the best bowling figures reading 4/30.
