The IPL 2024 will see its tournament’s opener on March 22 (Friday). It will be played between Chennai Super Kings and Royal Challengers Bangalore. All teams took part in the IPL 2024 auction, which was held in December 2023. It saw some record-breaking signings, and two players crossed the INR 20 crore mark, which had never happened before.
However, there were some big names that went unsold. Especially some all-rounders that couldn’t get a deal. But it’s never too late. We have already seen some unsold players joining the team as replacements, and it can happen in the coming tournament as well. Hence, we will talk here about the five genuine all-rounders who can make their return to the IPL 2024 as replacements.
Five Genuine All-rounders who can return to the IPL 2024 as a replacement
All-rounders who can return to the IPL 2024 as a replacement
5. James Neesham (New Zealand)
Kiwi all-rounder James Neesham has been playing in various leagues around the world and is a key player in New Zealand’s white-ball squad. He has played for RR and MI in this tournament but hasn’t gotten many chances. The all-rounder went unsold at the IPL 2024 auction. But his current form is pretty good, and he did well in the BPL 2024. So a franchise can certainly look to him to replace an overseas start if required.
4. Dwaine Pretorius (South Africa)
Former South African star Dwaine Pretorius was part of the Yellow Army in 2022 and 2023. MS Dhoni also used him as a pinch-hitter in a few matches, and he is surely a bankable bowler. But Pretorius didn’t get any deals at the 2024 auction. As a result, he is still available. Pretorius showed great form in the SA20 and can be an ideal pick in the coming IPL season.
3. Matthew Short (Australia)
Matthew Short made his IPL debut in 2023 when he played for Punjab Kings. He had a pretty decent season with the bat but was not used much with the ball. However, since then, Short has made his place in the Australian T20I squad and also captained Perth Scorchers to the final three in the BBL 2023–24. He is a top-order batter who can bowl well and can be a pretty effective all-rounder to have.
2. Daniel Sams (Australia)
Veteran all-rounder Daniel Sams had a brilliant BBL 2023–24, and he also did well in the ILT20 2024. He is a genuine all-rounder who can bowl at the death overs and restrict the opposition. Adding to that, he brings his power-hitting ability to the table, smacks some big sixes, and can be used as a floater in the batting order. He went unsold and can be a good option, as he has been doing well so far.
1. Jason Holder (West Indies)
The biggest surprise was when Jason Holder went unsold at the IPL 2024 auction. The veteran all-rounder has been part of the IPL since 2013 and has played for CSK, SRH, KKR, RR, and LSG. In 46 games, he has picked up 53 wickets at an economy rate of 8.81. His ability to bowl well at the death makes him a suitable bowler in this league. Still, he can make a return to the IPL 2024 if someone gets injured.
