It was like a dream inning for Pakistani hitter Shahid Afridi, who smashed the fastest 50 in 2002 after facing only 18 balls. Pakistan was on the way to chasing a target of 137 runs against the Netherlands. In the third position, Afridi stayed on the crease to score 55 runs with six sixes and finished the match after hitting the ball over the boundary rope. Since then, no one has crossed this historical record. However, a former batter in the middle order representing the New Zealand team, Craig McMillan, reached close to Afridi’s record as he cracked the bowling attack of the USA while playing in 6th position. McMillan faced 21 balls to achieve the feat of second fastest fifty in Champions Trophy 2004. 

Five years later, standing next to McMillan, Eoin Morgan from England took 26 balls against South Africa. In 2017, Indian star batter Yuvraj Singh consumed 29 balls to score a blistering half-century against Pakistan.
