West Indies great Dwayne Bravo announced his retirement from all cricket formats as Kolkata Knight Riders appointed Champion as a mentor ahead of IPL 2025. Bravo, who will turn 41 next month, was all set to say goodbye to the Caribbean Premier League 2024 but was cut short due to an injury.
Trinbago Knight Riders (TKR) star allrounder Dwayne Bravo suffered a groin injury during a fielding while attempting a catch of Saint Lucia Kings captain Faf du Plessis. After the injury, Bravo announced his retirement from the ongoing CPL 2024 leaving a heartfelt message for his fans. In his own words, Bravo said
“My mind wants to keep going, but my body can no longer endure the pain, the breakdowns, and the strain… So, with a heavy heart, I officially announce my retirement from the sport. Today, the Champion bids farewell.”
On Thursday Dwayne announced his CPL retirement with a post on his official Instagram page and expressed his gratitude toward his fans.
Bravo captioned,” Today is the day I say goodbye to the game that has given me everything. From the age of five, I knew this was what I wanted to do—this was the sport I was destined to play. I had no interest in anything else, and I dedicated my entire life to you…”
He ended his poignant message with no remorse and hoped to see his fans on the other side in the next chapter of his career.
“I have no regrets about my career or this decision. Now, I look forward to my next chapter. Once again, thank you. See you soon on the other side. With love, Sir Champion.”
And that’s how a five-time champion Bravo’s Caribbean Premier League journey prematurely ends in 2024. Before ending his career, Dwayne Bravo had scalped 631 wickets in 582 T20 matches and became the highest wicket-taker in T20 cricket history. Prior to his CPL retirement, Dwayne Bravo also retired from International cricket in 2021 and bid farewell to his IPL career in 2023. However, Bravo accepted the coaching role for the Chennai Super Kings and Afghanistan. Previously, he won 4 titles with CSK in different roles.
Ahead of the IPL 2025, Bravo parted ways from the CSK and joined Kolkata Knight Riders as a Mentor. The announcement came right after he announced his retirement from all forms of cricket on Friday, 27 September.
